This is my homepage for Technical Editing. I had Benninghoff for two classes last semester two and I have him again. I'm hoping this will be a fun class.
What does editing mean to me?
When I first think of editing I think of fixing grammar. I think of paying attention to the nit picky details. To me editing also means to look at the whole picture. Everything in a piece must make sense and be there for a reason. Things need to be true, numbers need to add up and everything must relate back to the main point. Editing can also mean looking at design issues as well.
What experience do I have with editing?
Most of my experience with editing comes from peer editing for school papers. I have been doing that since I've learned to write. I am also a copy editor at the Echo. I have started doing that this past fall. I have a lot to learn and this is the first time I edited for a job. I also edited things on my own, like my e-mails and things I post on Web site, though I don't look those over to carefully unless it's for something proffesional like a job application.
What does technical editing mean and how is it different.?
When I think of technical editing I still of the nit picky detials and grammar. I also think technical editing is more design oriented and things like the fonts, style and layout of the document is looked at more closely. I also think it's editing technical documents, so things like numbers need to add up and facts need to be checked carefully and things need to be explained in a simple way.
