What does editing mean to you?

Editing, to me, means refining a piece of writing to eliminate elements that might interfere with the message. Things that might obstruct the message of a piece would include misspellings, awkward sentences due to grammar or word choice issues, transitions, and so forth.

What experience do you have with it?

In college I've written many papers, especially as a writing minor. My experience with editing has had ups and downs. One thing I've learned is that another pair of eyes can find a world of different ideas for editing. However, the mouth that accompanies the extra pair of eyes can potentially ruin the process. Perhaps I'm overly sensitive, but sometimes if a person is critiquing my writing in an insulting way, I'll just disregard all of their advice.

What would technical editing mean?

I'm not entirely sure. I suppose technical editing would involve more than just one aspect of editing (grammar, spelling).

How will this be different from my previous idea of editing?

Perhaps, it approaches many different aspects of editing and has different strategies for each. Most writing classes involve editing in passing, but don't give it the spotlight. Hopefully, this class with give editing the extra step that it deserves.
