Editing can be done on several levels. For example, an editor might edit a document for correct content or instructions, grammar, style or design and the flow of a document. 2. What experience do I have with editing? I have experience both having documents that I have created edited and also editing other writer's documents. In my experience, the professional editing symbols were not used as much when a technical document was edited as they were for a general communication. Most editors edit within the application and document using track changes feature. Years ago, my corporate editor used the symbols when editing my documents. 3. What does technical editing mean? Editing technical documents 4. How will this be different? We will need to know the task or what the goal of the document is before editing it appropriately. After reading the article on technical editing, it reinforces my understanding that there are many types of editors and editing and that technical editors are highly specialized. I also learned that although technical editing and technical writing are similar, the type of work they do and the typical work day tasks or activities that they perform may differ. Technical editors do not necessarily need to have a highly specialized knowledge of the subjects they are editing.
