Introducing Eric

Hi. My name is Eric Christensen and I am a graduate student here at EMU. I'm in the Professional Writing program. I also work down in the Writing Center here on campus and if I'm not in class or at home, that's probably where you'll find me. What's a graduate student doing in this class? Well I had a class with Steve in the Winter at the grad. level and wanted to take another class that was similar in its focus. My concentration is on writing and has been for some time now, having majored in it as an undergraduate at U of M-Flint.

I'm a returning grad. student to the Professional Writing program and am also a Graduate Assisstant. I've picked up a full time position at the Writing Center on campus since last year and am looking forward to a rewarding and insightful year there. Technical writing is still fairly new to me but I've made strides. Rhetorical theory makes more sense than it ever did and I am treating the study of technical writing as a way to analyze what makes writing more effective depending on the context (and maybe audience).

Aside from the world of academia, I have a vast love of movies and would love to try my hand at screenwriting at some point. Likewise, I want to continue writing fiction, keeping it separate from my current field. Up until recently, I wrote for the Flint Journal reviewing movies, sometimes weekly, for 2 1/2 years. I've been involved fairly steadily in the martial arts for a while now and have a first degree black belt in Hakko Ryu Ju Jutsu. I will continue training as long as possible.

I'm looking forward to this course and the entire semester. My only hope is that come the end of December, I will be a more effective and versatile writer than before.
