What is writing?

Writing is the articulation of ideas, feelings and concepts using the written word. Writing embodies clarity of thinking with precise execution of thoughts so that a reader, whomever that may be, can easily understand what they are reading. Writing is a form of expression that requires clear, concise and articulate words that work together to portray an overall meaning. Like many other things, to write well takes practice. There are techniques and theories behind writing well, but ultimately it is the author that must choose the right words at the right time to create polished prose, no matter what the genre.

What would technical writing be?

I view technical writing as something that is primarily used in the work place. Technical writing could be written instructions, a mannual, or copywriting material such as a brochure or flyer. Though I typically do not associate creativity with professional writing, I think in some instances there could be an opportunity to be creative.
