show you can link up your thoughts and revisions through the process of
Intro Memo development with the concepts we've gone over in class and in
our reading in PWO. We will then test the first versions of the Forklift

Today & To Do List (for Thurs 7/8):
- Review - Rhetorical Principles & Memos -
Rhetoric
1. Audience
2. Purpose
Argument
a. Claim/Point
b. Support/Evidence
c. Warrant/Reasoning
1. Memo Format and Issues
2. Shifting Purpose for the Process Documentation Memo
For Tues 7/6:
- Peer Critique - due by Monday at 5:00 - trade draft 3 via email, answer the
questions from class, and send the feedback to both the writer and me.
1. Is the memo broken up into "chunks"?;
2. Does is have an Overview?;
Now look at each individual "chunk";
1. Does it have a specific event/example/piece of evidence? ;
2. Does it explicitly explain how this experience can relate
to what we're going to be doing in 324 ? (writing? tech
comm example? teamwork? what kind of worker person is?
whatever way this experience relates, is that claim spelled
out for the reader?)
- Reading Notes - The 2nd part of the homework is to take notes from the
reading, by copying and pasting into a Word file called,
mysteriously, "Notes.doc", by picking key points from the
reading, what you would highlight, and just have a quick line
for each clip saying why it seems key or important or new
to you. Then be sure you upload the file and/or email it to
yourself so you have access to it in class.
- Get on the Reading - Buy the "Book"
- Get your home computer set up to upload files to your people.emich account.
You can download the software from
people.emich.edu. For PCs the Secure
Shell Suite is what you want (the shortcut on the desktop will say "FileZilla").
For Macs (running OS X) you want Fugu, just as
we have in class.
- Revise your Intro Memo (filename should be "IM-"your initials"-3.doc")
- Upload it to your people.emich account -- if you have trouble, be sure to
email it to yourself (as an attachment) -- use the link for mail.emich to
the right here, and notice you have to hit three or four buttons to complete
the attachment: one step to find the file, another to link it, another to actually
attach it.
- Get Portfolio Pages up
