Student Documentation Page: Technical & Professional Writing Program
A permanent home for our students' documentation projects. Our class tutorials are designed to help user's adapt software to their communication/design needs, not force the conceptions of the software developers on them.

Sample Web Site Design
An example of how consistent design grids and navigational schemes allow users to know where they are in a site and know where to look for particular kinds of information.

Simple Text Formatting with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) Example
An example of some text format features we take for granted with Word Processors, and how they are done with CSS.

A Simple Image Map :: Owls & their Vision
An example of an image map, where different areas of a picture file become web links--how many whole sites are created with graphics.

Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) Workshop
A CSS Workshop I did at the 2004 Computers and Writing Conference in Hawaii, with Steven D. Krause and Bill Hart-Davidson. The tutorial presented the basic concepts of CSS, but then showed how you can use CSS to teach style rhetorically--i.e. how document design is contextual, situational, political, etc.

SFTP (Filezilla) Install and Use Help Page
This page is a bit of a walkthrough written for EMU students new to uploading files to servers like people.emich.edu, where our students can put their web pages.

One OpenSource (free) Way to Create PDF Files
This page is a modified crib of Ken Chiro's set of instructions for how to do this. I'm sure they need tested and cleaned up, but something's better than nothing.

Web Page Layout: An HTML Table Tutorial
This page is part of an HTML Workshop for Writing Teachers I participated in with a squad of tech-oriented writing and tech comm teachers. My portion of the workshop was to get our participants beyond the very minimal design capabilities of HTML and thinking about page layout, and a brief intro to some strategies of using tables to create different layouts for a variety of purposes.
